In our home, we reach for natural remedies first: essential oils, herbal tinctures, homeopathy, nourishing foods, and non-toxic products, but that doesn’t mean we don’t believe in modern medicine. In fact, we’re thankful for medical advancements. We simply believe that natural healing and modern medicine can coexist, and that both have a time and place.
We’ve found that trusting in the body’s God-designed ability to heal is often the best first step. When symptoms arise, our first instinct isn’t always to mask them: it’s to listen. What is the body trying to communicate? Whether it’s through a fever, inflammation, or fatigue, these are often signs that the immune system is at work. And this is where natural healing and modern medicine intersect for us.
Natural remedies and non-toxic products have become staples in our home. We diffuse essential oils for respiratory support, apply herbal salves to minor wounds, and use supplements to support adrenal health or digestion. We do this not to reject medicine, but to support the body gently and prevent the need for stronger interventions unless absolutely necessary.
There’s a time & place
But let’s be clear: there is a time and place for medical intervention. We’re not anti-doctor, anti-hospital, or anti-antibiotic. We’ve rushed to the ER when needed, accepted prescriptions, and sought out specialists when natural methods weren’t enough. Modern medicine has saved lives, relieved pain, and brought hope when other paths weren’t working. We’re deeply grateful for that.
The key, we believe, is discernment. Not everything requires a prescription, just as not everything can be fixed with garlic and elderberry syrup. Wisdom lies in knowing when to allow the body to fight and when to step in with medical support. That’s the beauty of embracing natural healing and modern medicine together, it doesn’t have to be either/or. It can be both/and.
So, when people ask if we’re “against medicine” because we opt for non-toxic cleaners, make our own salves, or choose not to jump straight to antibiotics, we lovingly say no. We’re not against anything. We’re for giving the body what it needs in the most supportive, least invasive way possible and if that means medicine, we’re not afraid to use it.
Ultimately, our goal is simple: to raise a family that understands how their bodies work, trusts the healing power built into them, and knows when to ask for help. Whether it’s a warm mug of bone broth or a call to the pediatrician, we’re thankful to live in a world where natural healing and modern medicine can walk hand in hand.
