Tis the season where we all panic and cannot figure out what to buy for our children off their Christmas shopping list.
We all may think things like: We don’t have the funds or we just feel overwhelmed with options in the store or online. We have too many kids. How do they all get the same amount? We only have one kid. How do we make sure they do not get bombarded with meaningless things?
What is the Christmas miracle list?
I may not have THE answer for you, or maybe this just won’t work for your situation but in our house we follow this that I saw online a few years ago. We have been loosely following this as our Christmas shopping list ever since and it has made shopping for now five kids so much more easier!
Here is what we just went by when shopping this week:
- Something they need
- Something they want
- Something to wear
- Something to read
Seriously. That’s it. Each kid will be getting four presents each plus the goodies in their stockings.
Yes, sometimes the categories might line up to where they get something they need and something they wear, so they’ll get two things to wear. But for Declan this year he’s been asking for new shoes, so that’s something he wants, like badly, so he’s getting new shoes but he’s also getting “something to wear” (a cool dinosaur shirt).
Seriously, that’s it for a Christmas list?
Like I stated, we loosely follow this because sometimes we buy family gifts as well, like a new board game or an outside item like yard games.
I am a person who hates clutter and buying things to just buy. Filling stockings are my worst enemy, honestly, I hate them. I usually end up stuffing them with new socks, underwear, hair ties and a few candy pieces. The older kids will sometimes get gift cards/codes for Minecoins or V-Bucks.
Going through the shopping cart and keeping in mind those four categories made Christmas shopping a breeze for five kids. I couldn’t recommend it more.
Keeps you from buying random toys that your kids will play with for a few hours and forget about. Keeps Christmas more simple and less cluttered.
